Detex EAX-500W Weatherized Battery Exit Alarm

The Detex EAX-500W is the weatherized version of Detex's EAX-500 battery exit alarm. Detex designs it for secured doors that need a battery powered alarm, "particularly emergency exits that open to the outdoors or wet environment." When someone opens the door without authorization, a 100 dB alarm sounds, and only the control key silences it. It mounts on the door and runs on a 9V battery with a low battery alert. Detex describes its products as assembled in America.

The mortise cylinder is not included

The alarm is armed and disarmed with a key, and Detex sells it without the cylinder. Order a mortise cylinder with a standard Yale cam, or it arrives with no way to switch it on or off.

What weatherized means here

Detex seals the electronics for outdoor and wet locations and cites two military screening tests for them, driving rain and salt fog. Those are lab tests of the electronics, not a rated service life in a given climate, and Detex's warranty excludes corrosion and exposure to extreme climate changes. Detex's surface kit (SK), used for multi-door setups and a wired external door switch, is not available weatherized.
