The Detex Advantex 50 Series is Detex's super-heavy-duty surface vertical rod exit device for narrow stile double doors without a mullion. The top and bottom rods latch into the head and the floor, so a pair of doors can close against each other with no center post. Detex supplies every 50 Series with top and bottom rod covers and an ADA ramped bottom bolt cover, and tests it beyond 1,000,000 cycles, twice the cycling UL requires for Grade 1. This is the 48 in device for a 7 ft door, in satin stainless steel (630). Detex describes its products as assembled in America.

Specifications

Model 50 630 96 48X84, with the dogging code selected above
Device type Narrow stile surface vertical rod exit device
Door width Fits a 48 in (4 ft) wide door
Door height Fits a 7 ft (84 in) door, with top and bottom rods and rod covers
Latching Stainless steel deadlocking top latchbolt; hardened steel bottom drop bolt with ADA ramped cover
Strike 96 surface strike
Finish 630 (US32D) satin stainless steel, finished over stainless steel with PVD
Dogging Hex dogging, Cylinder dogging, selected above. 1/8 turn
Listings UL listed panic hardware (UL 305); ANSI/BHMA A156.3 Grade 1
Warranty Detex limited warranty: 10 years mechanical, 3 years electrical

Choosing the dogging option

Dogging holds the latch retracted so the door pushes open freely during open hours. Hex dogging uses a hex key and is the Detex standard. Cylinder dogging does the same with a key, and the cylinder is not included, so order one with the device or it arrives unable to dog. Choose no dogging when the opening should stay latched at all times. Each option is the same price.

Fire-rated doors

This is the panic hardware version. Detex's fire exit hardware is a separate model with an F prefix in the part number, so do not use this device on a fire-rated opening. Outside trim is sold separately.

Related standards

Panic hardware requirements and mounting heights: IBC panic hardware. The panic hardware standard itself: UL 305. Grade 1 testing basis: ANSI/BHMA A156.3. Exit and egress rules for your occupancy: NFPA 101 and IBC Chapter 10.
