Detex FV50 48 in Fire Rated Surface Vertical Rod Exit Device

The Detex FV50 is the fire rated version of the V50 surface vertical rod exit device from Detex's Value Series, for pairs of doors without a mullion on fire-rated openings. The top and bottom rods latch the door into the head and the floor, so a pair can close against each other with no center post. Detex lists it as fire exit hardware for 3 hour openings. It has a stainless steel 3/4 in deadlocking top latchbolt and a ribbed aluminum rail. This is the 48 in device for a 7 ft door, in aluminum (628) or black (711). Detex describes its products as assembled in America.

Why there is no dogging option

Detex supplies its fire rated devices without dogging (LD). A fire door has to latch every time it closes, so fire exit hardware cannot be held open with a dogging key the way panic hardware can. If the opening does not need a fire rating, the panic hardware version of this device offers hex or cylinder dogging. Detex's photo shows that panic hardware version, with its dogging access point on the rail; this fire rated device has none.

On a fire-rated opening

Fire exit hardware is one part of a rated opening. The door, frame, hinges, closer and any outside trim have to be rated for it too, so check the labels on the door and frame before you order. Outside trim is sold separately.
