Deck Waterproofing Systems
Deck waterproofing systems protect living spaces and structures from water and fire damage on exterior balconies, rooftop decks, and other elevated walking surfaces. These types of systems combine waterproofing with durable traffic coatings to create surfaces that resist weather, foot traffic, and impact. Deck waterproofing and fire-rated systems are typically required for multi-family buildings with balconies over living areas, rooftop walking decks and elevated walking surfaces with specific fire classification requirements, California properties subject to SB721 balcony inspections, commercial and residential deck projects requiring building permits, and other deck structures.
Most building departments require ICC-ES evaluated and listed deck waterproofing systems for this kind of permitted deck related work. Products evaluated and listed under ICC-ES AC39 have been independently tested for fire resistance, waterproofing, pedestrian traffic durability and systems are typically specified under CSI Division 07 18 13 - Pedestrian Traffic Coatings.
