Door Pulls and Protection Plates
Protection plates take the wear that feet, carts and mops put on the bottom of a door. They are named by height: a mop plate is the lowest, up to about 6 inches, a kick plate runs about 6 to 12 inches, and an armor plate goes higher still, up to about 48 inches, where carts, beds or stretchers push doors open. Plates are usually stainless steel, with edges beveled so they do not catch. Depending on the model they fasten with oval head screws, through countersunk holes, or with adhesive.
Plates are sold by height and width. Which side of the door a plate goes on sets its width: usually the door width less 2 inches on the push side, so the plate clears the stops, and less 1-1/2 inches on the pull side. Check the plate fits between the hinges and any hardware at the bottom of the door before you choose a height.
