Electric Strikes
An electric strike replaces the strike in the door frame with one that has a movable keeper. When the access control system switches it, the keeper lets the latch go and the door opens from outside without a key. From inside, the lock or exit device still opens the door the way it always does.
Match the strike to the latch it receives. Strikes are made for rim exit devices, cylindrical locks or mortise locks, for a given latchbolt throw and for hollow metal, aluminum or wood frames. Then choose how it behaves without power. Fail secure stays locked when the power goes, and fail safe unlocks. On a fire rated door the latch has to hold in a fire, so check the strike's own fire listing on its product page and with your authority having jurisdiction. Every strike needs a low voltage supply: see access control power supplies.
