⚠️ This Standard Has Been Withdrawn
ASTM A569 was withdrawn in 2000. Use ASTM A1011 CS Type B as the modern equivalent.
Historical Overview
ASTM A569 formerly covered general-purpose, low-carbon hot-rolled steel with 0.15% maximum carbon content. It was known for excellent ductility, formability, and weldability, suitable for bending and moderate forming operations.
Former Applications
- Non-structural framing components
- Equipment housings and enclosures
- General-purpose steel parts
- Moderate forming and bending applications
Modern Replacement - ASTM A1011
ASTM A1011 provides more sophisticated designations: Commercial Steel (CS) for general forming, Drawing Steel (DS) for severe forming, Structural Steel (SS) with guaranteed minimum strength, and High-Strength Low-Alloy Steel (HSLAS) for higher strength-to-weight applications.
Direct Replacement: ASTM A1011 CS Type B
