A door alarm tells staff when a door is used or left open. It does not lock the door. There are a few kinds: exit alarms that sound when an armed door opens, door prop alarms that sound when a door stays open too long, hardwired alarms with a timed bypass for deliveries, and remote alarms that repeat the signal at a staff station. Battery alarms usually mount on the door; hardwired alarms usually mount on the wall and need a door switch and a power supply.
Weatherized alarms are sealed for outdoor and wet doors. The standard for these products is ANSI/BHMA A156.29, which covers exit locks, exit alarms and alarms for exit devices. Check each model's listing on its product page.
