These are JL Industries entrance grates, grilles and mats. They scrape dirt and water off shoes at the door and let it fall between the rails below the walking surface. Pick the series, then send the size and depth of the opening or your plans. We reply with pricing, lead time and the submittal.
Each one is made to order in the size of your entrance, so it is priced per project for its series, size, frame and tread. Send the series with the opening size and depth. Plans work too.

What size do I send?
The opening width across the entrance and its length in the direction of travel, plus the recess depth if the floor already has one. The treads run across the direction of travel. The shop drawing sets the outside frame size and depth, and the final recess depth is checked on site.
Which one takes carts?
Go by the manufacturer's rolling wheel load. The 700 and 800 mats are rated 350 lb, for luggage and light carts. The 900 grate is rated 400 lb, for light carts. The 400 grate is rated 750 lb and the 500 grille and 600 grate 1,000 lb, for heavy carts.
Do I need a recess in the floor?
Not for every series. The 400 grate and the 700 and 800 mats have a surface-mount aluminum frame that anchors to an existing floor, and the mats also come in surface-mount vinyl frames. The 600 and 900 grates and the 500 grille go in a recess.
Which tread for a wet or outdoor entrance?
Tuff Tread is waterproof and stands up to weather, for interior or exterior entrances. Serrated vinyl suits wet entrances, but the manufacturer does not recommend serrated vinyl, serrated aluminum or the stainless grille outdoors in snowy climates. Premium carpet is the most absorbent and is for interiors. An alternating tread mixes two types to scrape and absorb.
Is it slip resistant?
The manufacturer publishes a static coefficient of friction for three of its treads. Serrated vinyl is .88 dry and .73 wet. Tuff Tread is .78 dry and .71 wet. Premium carpet is .85 dry and .51 wet. These are the manufacturer's figures, not a slip-resistance rating for your project.
Can you match a grate from another brand?
The manufacturer publishes a cross-reference from these series to Babcock, Construction Specialties, Nystrom, Pawling and Reese Enterprises entrance grates and mats, for quoting when another brand is specified. It does not call them identical, so send the specified model and we confirm the match.
How is it cleaned?
The manufacturer recommends lifting the grate or mat sections out each week to clean the recess, and vacuuming carpet treads with a rotating brush. Tuff Tread can also be hosed off. The stainless grille is vacuumed in place, and the manufacturer advises against lifting it except when necessary. Damaged treads can be replaced.
Is it made in the USA?
We do not have origin confirmed series by series yet. The manufacturer's US-made program guide lists its aluminum and stainless steel entrance mats and gratings under Farmington, Minnesota. Its environmental sheet for the 500 grille names Farmington as the manufacturing location. Ask before you rely on origin for a Buy American requirement.
What is the warranty?
Five years on the 500 stainless grille and two years on the 400, 600, 700, 800 and 900 series, from shipment, against defects in materials, factory finishes and workmanship. It does not cover installation or removal costs.
Which spec section is it?
12 48 13 Entrance Floor Mats and Frames, which the federal master specification uses for roll-up mats, floor grids and their frames. Some project manuals put rigid grilles in 12 48 16 Entrance Floor Grilles instead. The manufacturer's own guide specifications use 12 48 13 for the mats, 12 48 16 for the grille and 12 48 19 for the grates.
How do I send plans?

What do the 800 series codes mean?
The mat code names the tread: EM800 premium carpet, EM801 vinyl, EM802 serrated aluminum, EM805 Tuff Tread and EM810 alternating, with two treads in an alternating pattern. The frame has its own code. EFRA8 is a recessed angle frame, EFRC8 a recessed cast-in-place frame and EFRT8 a recessed threshold frame. EFSA8, EFSV8 and EFST8 surface-mount the mat in an aluminum frame, a vinyl frame or a vinyl tray.
