Are JL Industries cabinets made in the USA?

Yes. JL Industries is an Activar Construction Products Group brand, and its fire extinguisher and AED cabinets are manufactured in the United States, at Bloomington, Minnesota and Commerce, California.

What is the difference between a recessed and a surface-mounted cabinet?

A recessed cabinet sets into the wall for a flush, finished look but needs a wall cavity deeper than the cabinet tub. A surface-mounted cabinet bolts to the wall face and needs no cavity, which suits masonry and thin walls. Our cabinet selection guide walks through the choice.

Are the AED cabinets ADA-compliant?

The recessed and semi-recessed LifeStart AED cabinets project 4 inches or less from the wall, within the limit the ADA sets for objects that project into a circulation path. Surface-mounted cabinets project farther and suit walls set back from those paths.

Q: Which cabinets are fire-rated?

The fire-rated FX2 option carries a UL 1479 (ASTM E814) classification up to two hours, so a recessed cabinet can serve in a fire-resistance-rated wall when it is installed per that listing. Standard cabinets are fine in non-rated walls or for surface mounting.

JL Industries, a brand of Activar Construction Products Group, manufactures fire extinguisher cabinets, AED cabinets, and fire protection specialties in the United States, at plants in Bloomington, Minnesota and Commerce, California. The line is built for commercial, institutional, and public-project specifications, where the wall equipment has to match the drawings and the code.

Fire extinguisher cabinets

US Made Supply is an authorized JL Industries distributor and offers cabinet families for most wall conditions. The Embassy series is a trimless, fully recessed architectural cabinet for a finished look in corridors and lobbies, and the Economyline series surface-mounts to the wall face where there is no cavity to recess into. Impact-resistant Cato plastic cabinets add an option built for outdoor and parking-garage exposure. A fire-rated (FX2) option carries a UL 1479 (ASTM E814) classification up to two hours, so a recessed cabinet can serve in a fire-resistance-rated wall when it is installed per that listing. Compare sizes and mounting in our fire extinguisher cabinet selection guide, or browse the range in fire extinguisher cabinets. Placement and mounting height follow NFPA 10.

AED cabinets

The LifeStart line protects an AED (automated external defibrillator) and keeps it visible in an emergency, in steel, clear-anodized aluminum, and brushed stainless steel for offices, schools, healthcare, and other demanding interiors. Each LifeStart cabinet includes an 85 dB door alarm with a keyed on/off switch and AED graphics, and the recessed and semi-recessed models keep their wall projection within the 4-inch limit the ADA allows for objects along a circulation path.
