Dur-Red equipment hatches are double door roof hatches sized for installing and servicing large equipment through the roof. Pick the series, then send the size or your plans. We reply with pricing, lead time and the submittal.
Each hatch is made to order, so we price it per project for its size, material and options. Send the series with the roof opening size and steel or aluminum. Plans work too.

Can you match the hatch I'm replacing?
Usually. The manufacturer publishes a cross-reference from the REH series to Acudor, Babcock-Davis, Bilco and Nystrom equipment hatches. REH replaces Dur-Red's older EH, EHA and EHG series. The domed REHV replaces the older DEH, DEHA and DEHG. Send the old model number or a photo of its label and we confirm the match and the size before we quote.
Who makes them?
Dur-Red, one of the Activar Construction Products Group brands alongside JL Industries. These are its Dura-Hatch Equipment series hatches. We order them through our Activar account.
What size do I send?
The roof opening. The hatch is sized inside the curb, so a 60 × 96 in hatch fits a 60 × 96 in roof opening. Width runs hinge to latch and length runs along the hinge. The clear opening is 8 in less each way, so size it for the equipment that has to pass through.
Steel or aluminum?
Steel (REHG) is 14 ga galvanneal with a 22 ga cover liner and a gray powder coat. Aluminum (REHA) is 11 ga with an 18 ga cover liner and a silver powder coat, and it is much lighter: about 140 lb at 48 × 48 in, against 320 lb in steel. A steel curb with an aluminum cover is also made.
How do they open?
By hand, from outside or inside. Each door has spring latches and handles. Springs help lift it, and a hold-open arm locks it upright. For a vent that opens on its own in a fire, see our roof smoke vents.
Can it go on a pitched roof?
Yes, on slopes up to 2:12, with the hinge side mounted parallel to the slope.
What options are there?
A curb mount option, a double wall curb, curb heights from 13 to 22 in, 2 in curb insulation, a wood nailer and stainless hardware. Name the ones you need on the quote form.
Is there a safety railing?
Yes. A bolt-on safety railing (RSHWB) is sold separately. Ask for it with the hatch and we quote both together.
How are they maintained?
The manufacturer's guide says to open the hatch by hand once a year to check the latches, hinges and handles. It also says to clean and regrease the latches as needed.
Is it made in the USA?
Yes. The manufacturer lists its equipment hatches as built in Bloomington, Minnesota or Commerce, California.
What is the warranty?
The manufacturer warrants its roof hatches for five years from shipment against defects in materials and workmanship.
How do I send plans?
Tick "I have plans or specs to share" on the quote form. We email you, and you reply with the drawings.
