Dur-Red smoke vents open on their own in a fire to let smoke and heat out through the roof. Pick the series, then send the size or your plans. We reply with pricing, lead time and the submittal.
Each vent is made to order, so we price it per project for its size and options. Send the series with the roof opening size and any link or curb option. Plans work too.

Can you match the smoke vent I'm replacing?
Usually. The manufacturer publishes a cross-reference from these series to Babcock-Davis, Bilco, Milcor and Nystrom smoke vents and to older Dur-Red models such as the UFV, UFSH and UDFV. Send the old model number or a photo of its label and we confirm the match and the size before we quote.
Who makes them?
Dur-Red, one of the Activar Construction Products Group brands alongside JL Industries. These are its Fahrenheit series smoke vents. We order them through our Activar account.
Are they UL listed?
Yes. Both series are UL 793 listed and labeled up to 48 × 96 in. The listing does not cover larger sizes.
What opens the vent in a fire?
A 165°F fusible link. When it melts, gas springs open both doors, with dampers to slow the swing. Melt-out links from 212°F to 450°F are an option, and McCabe electric links at 24 V DC or 115 V AC can tie the vent to a fire alarm. Pull handles inside and out open it by hand.
Will it stay shut in wind and open under snow?
The latches hold the doors closed against 90 lb/sq ft of wind uplift, and the springs open them against 10 lb/sq ft of snow. The cover carries a 40 lb/sq ft live load.
What size do I send?
The roof opening. The vent is sized inside the curb, so a 48 × 96 in vent fits a 48 × 96 in roof opening. Width runs hinge to latch and length runs along the hinge.
Can it go on an existing curb?
Yes. A curb mount version fits over an existing curb, which suits a retrofit. Curb heights from 16 to 22 in and 2 in insulation are also options.
Is there a security grille?
Yes, ordered separately. The standard RSG grille is 1/2 in steel bars on 6 × 12 in spacing, and other spacings are an option. It mounts on a drop-in flange under the vent or a bolt-in flange inside it. The manufacturer offers it for security and fall protection.
How are they maintained?
The manufacturer's guide calls for an operational test every year, with the latches, gas springs and links inspected. Closing an open vent takes two people. Replacement 165°F fusible links have their own part number.
Is it made in the USA?
Yes. The manufacturer lists its smoke vents as built in Bloomington, Minnesota or Commerce, California.
What is the warranty?
The manufacturer warrants its smoke vents for five years from shipment against defects in materials and workmanship.
