Door louvers let air move through a closed door. Pick the series, then send the door cutout size and the door it goes in, or your plans. We reply with pricing, lead time and the submittal.
Each louver is sized to the door cutout, so we price every order per project for its series, size, material and color. Send the series with the cutout size and door thickness. Plans work too.

Which louvers are fire-rated?
Only the 1900A and the 1900ASG. The manufacturer lists both as UL listed and labeled to UL 10B, UL 10C and CAN/ULC S104 for 1-3/4 in steel and composite fire doors rated up to 90 minutes. They are made in one section up to 24 × 24 in. Ask for a project submittal with your quote. Your local authority having jurisdiction has the final say on any fire door.
How does a fire-rated louver close?
A fusible link melts at 165°F and the blades close and lock. A tab on the room side opens or closes them by hand. Never paint the link or its hardware, because paint voids the fire rating. Work the blades by hand at least once a year.
What size do I send?
The door cutout. A louver's order size is the cutout and its frame laps onto the door around it. For the 700TL transom louver, send the inside size of the frame opening.
What do A1, A, C and core mean?
They are the ways a louver attaches. A1 is self-attaching with no screws on the corridor side and fits 1-3/4 in doors only. A has a frame on each face and adjusts to doors from 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 in. C has a frame on the corridor face, with molding by others on the room side. Core is the blade unit alone, held by molding, which also suits a transom. The 600, 800, 900 and 1300 come all four ways.
Can you see through them?
The manufacturer builds most series non-vision, so the blades block the view. The adjustable 1100 and the fire-rated 1900 series are not described that way, and no series is called light-proof.
Which ones go on an exterior door?
The 1400 aluminum louver with its water baffle, the 900FPL galvanneal louver with a bird screen and the hurricane-rated 1500AHR. The 1300 aluminum louver suits humid or exterior spaces. The 600, 700A, 800 and 900 also come galvanneal or zinc-plated for exterior use.
Is the 1500AHR hurricane-rated?
Yes. The manufacturer lists Florida Building Code approval FL13341 with a 350 ft lb impact rating and a 60 psf design pressure. It is tested to ASTM E330, ASTM E1886, ASTM E1996, ANSI A250.13 and TAS 201, 202 and 203. A hurricane rating covers the whole door assembly, not the louver alone. Check that the door and louver are approved together and confirm with your code official before ordering. It tops out at 24 × 64 in and is not made in multiple sections.
Can I get one bigger than the maximum size?
The 600, 700A, 700TL, 800, 900, 900FPL, 1300 and 1500A can be built in multiple sections joined by a 1-1/2 in mullion, quoted per project. Fire-rated louvers cannot, and the 1500AHR stops at 24 × 64 in.
What colors and materials?
Ten powder coat colors: bronze, gray, black, flat black, white, silver, brass, sand, AMS beige and SC beige. The 1400 is mill finish aluminum. Several series also come in stainless steel with a #4 finish.
Can I add a screen?
Yes, on most series. Pick an 18 × 14 insect screen in fiberglass, aluminum, bronze or stainless steel. Or pick a 1/4 in galvanized bird screen. A louver takes one or the other. The 1100 takes an insect screen only. The 900FPL comes with a bird screen. For the fire-rated 1900 series and the 1500AHR, ask us first: their listing documents do not mention screens.
Can you match a louver another brand specified?
Usually. The manufacturer publishes a cross-reference from these series to Advantage, Anemostat and Rockwood louvers and notes they are not exact equals, so check the wall depth. Send the model you were given and we confirm the match before we quote.
Who makes them?
Air Louvers, one of the Activar Construction Products Group brands alongside JL Industries. We order them through our Activar account.
Is it made in the USA?
Yes. The manufacturer lists all its door louvers as built in Bloomington, Minnesota or Commerce, California.
What is the warranty?
Five years from shipment against defects in materials and workmanship.
How do I send plans?
