These are Air Louvers vision lites. A vision lite is the steel frame that holds the glass in a door's window cutout. Order the frame alone or as a kit with glass cut to size, including fire-rated door glass. Pick the frame, then send the cutout size, door thickness, glass and fire rating. We reply with pricing, lead time and the submittal.
Each frame is sized to the door cutout and made to fit its glass, so we price every order per project for its series, size, material, color and glass. Send the series with the cutout size, door thickness and glass thickness. Plans work too.

What is a door vision lite?
The steel frame that holds the glass in a window cut into a door. Order the frame alone, or as a PAK: a kit with the glass cut to size and the glazing tape or sealant it needs.
How long a fire rating can I get?
Up to 180 minutes. The six frame series are UL listed and labeled to UL 10B, UL 10C and CAN/ULC S104 when installed in a rated door. The rating depends on the glass and the exposed glass area, and the largest fire-rated size is set by the glass listing and the door maker's listing. Your local authority having jurisdiction has the final say.
Which fire-rated door glass should I use?
The fire-rated glass in the series specs is fire-protective glass. It stops smoke and flames but lets radiant heat through. Pyran Platinum F and L and FireLite NT and Plus are rated up to 3 hours, WireShield up to 90 minutes and Fireglass20 to 20 minutes. Tempered glass is safety glass, not fire-rated. In 60 and 90 minute doors in exit enclosures and exit passageways, fire-protective glass is limited to 100 sq in. Fire-resistive glass also blocks radiant heat. The manufacturer offers it at 60 and 90 minutes in custom PAKs on the VSIG, VLFIG and VLFEZIG frames. Check with your local authority before you choose.
What size do I send?
The door cutout. A vision lite's order size is the cutout. The glass is cut 1 in smaller each way for Slimline and EZLine frames and 1/4 in smaller for Thrubolt frames. Order a PAK and the glass comes cut.
Where should the window sit on the door?
On an accessible door, the bottom of at least one pane goes no higher than 43 in above the finished floor. Glass whose lowest edge is more than 66 in up is exempt. Plan the window around the lever or panic bar.
Are the hurricane PAKs fire-rated?
Their submittals list a windstorm rating and no fire rating. Both carry Florida Product Approval FL13187, with a 350 ft lb impact rating, missile D and wind zone 4. The VLFEZHRC is rated to ±55 psf and the VLFIGHRC to ±70 psf. A hurricane rating covers the whole door assembly, so check the door is approved with the frame and confirm with your code official before ordering.
Which options are not fire-rated?
The hinged privacy doors (VLFPVC and the Slimline privacy door), the speaker panel (VLFS10SP), the lead-lined VLFIG and VLFEZIG frames and the miniblind PAKs (VSIGMB and VLFEZIGMB). Use them in doors that need no fire rating.
What colors and materials?
Mineral bronze powder coat is standard. Nine more powder coat colors: gray, black, flat black, white, silver, brass, sand, AMS beige and SC beige. The six frame series also come in 304 stainless steel with a #4 finish, galvanneal or zinc-plated steel.
Can I divide the glass with mullions?
Yes. All six frame series take them, the VSIG only in 1-3/4 in doors. Welded-on mullions 1 in wide give a divided-lite look over one pane of glass, with fire ratings up to 3 hours depending on the glass and the exposed area.
Can you match a vision lite another brand specified?
Usually. The manufacturer publishes a cross-reference from these series to Advantage, All Metal, Anemostat, National Guard and Rockwood vision lites and notes they are not exact equals. Send the model you were given and we confirm the match before we quote.
Who makes them?
Air Louvers, one of the Activar Construction Products Group brands alongside JL Industries. We order them through our Activar account.
Is it made in the USA?
The frames are. The manufacturer lists all its door vision lites as built in Bloomington, Minnesota or Commerce, California. Its US-made guide also lists some glazing as not qualifying, so if you need US-made glass, say so with your request. We are confirming the glass in the two hurricane PAKs, so they carry no Made in USA mark yet.
What is the warranty?
Five years from shipment against defects in material and workmanship, on the frames and on the hurricane PAKs. The manufacturer repairs or replaces a defective part and covers no labor. Glass has its own warranty by type, from none on tempered glass and Fireglass20 to 10 years on ContraShield.
