The Ampco Safety Tools B-400 is a scratch brush with a curved handle, a 1-1/8 x 13-3/4 in block and 4 x 19 rows of round wire. Ampco lists it as made in the USA.

Ampco describes its tools as non-sparking, non-magnetic and corrosion resistant. Tools like this are used where a steel tool could strike a spark near flammable vapors, liquids or combustible dust. Read more about where non-sparking tools fit.

Ampco states that this tool was independently tested and found to pose no risk in MRI environments with a static magnetic field of 3 tesla and a maximum spatial gradient of 720 gauss/cm or less, that it conforms to ASTM F2503 and that it meets the requirements of ASTM A342. Non-magnetic is not the same as the MR Safe label. Our guide explains the difference under non-magnetic tools.

Before you use it

Ampco notes that non-sparking tools are softer than steel, so use each one only for the job it is made for. It also says to keep copper-based tools out of direct contact with acetylene, ethylene oxide and some explosives, such as amatol, DBX and lead azide. Ampco's alloys conduct electricity, so ground the tool where static charge is a concern.

As our guide on the limits of non-sparking tools explains, a non-sparking tool makes an igniting spark less likely. It does not replace ventilation, atmosphere monitoring or grounding.
