Frequently Asked Questions
What fire extinguisher does DOT require for my truck?
Standard CMVs need at least one extinguisher rated 5 B:C or higher (49 CFR §393.95). Most fleets use a 5 lb ABC dry chemical, which exceeds the minimum at 3-A:40-B:C. Hazmat transport requires 10 B:C minimum — a 10 lb ABC covers this.
Are warning triangles required by DOT?
Yes. 49 CFR §393.95 requires every CMV to carry three bidirectional emergency reflective triangles conforming to FMVSS 125. They must be deployed when a vehicle is stopped on the shoulder or roadway. The Cortina Triangle Warning Kit in our kits meets this requirement.
Do you offer fleet volume pricing?
Yes. For orders of 10+ vehicles, call 714-248-6555 or email partners@usmadesupply.com for custom fleet pricing. Request a quote above and include your fleet size and vehicle types.
How often do fire extinguishers need inspection?
Monthly visual inspection (check gauge, location, damage). Annual professional servicing by a certified technician. Hydrostatic testing every 6 or 12 years depending on cylinder type. NFPA 10 is the underlying standard; drivers should also verify during pre-trip inspections.
What first aid kit is required in a commercial vehicle?
DOT §393.95 does not require a first aid kit, but OSHA 1910.151 requires "adequate" first aid supplies where no infirmary is nearby — which applies to most fleet operations. Our kits include ANSI Z308.1-compliant first aid kits: a 10-person vehicle kit for light/medium trucks and a 25-person OSHA kit for hazmat/larger operations.
Can I get a quote for 10+ vehicles?
Yes. Call 714-248-6555 or email partners@usmadesupply.com with your fleet size and vehicle types. We provide itemized quotes with volume pricing, typically within 1 business day.
