JL Industries Ambassador Steel Recessed Locking Fire Extinguisher Cabinet 10 lb 1015W10

The JL Industries Ambassador 1015W10 is a recessed steel fire extinguisher cabinet with a locking Saf-T-Lok door, made in the USA. The Saf-T-Lok is a keyed cylinder lock with a breakaway lexan cam: day to day the cabinet is locked against tampering and theft, and in an emergency a sharp pull on the door breaks or bends the plastic cam and opens the cabinet without a key. Two keys are included for routine access and inspections. The 3/8 in flat square trim sits nearly flush with the wall, and the vertical-duo clear acrylic door swings on a continuous hinge that opens 180 degrees.

Where a locking cabinet makes sense

Any wall where extinguishers get tampered with or taken between inspections. The point of the Saf-T-Lok design is that the lock never blocks emergency access: the cabinet only appears fully locked, and a sharp pull breaks the sacrificial cam. The lexan cam is replaceable, so after an opening the lock goes back in service with a new cam.

Installer note

On Saf-T-Lok door styles the pull sits 3-1/2 in higher than the door center; allow for that against the 48 in maximum handle height when setting the cabinet's mounting height.

Extinguisher compatibility

JL's fit matrix rates this tub for standard 2.5 to 10 lb dry-chemical extinguishers, with wider-bodied clean-agent units to 5 lb and 5 lb CO2. Fit is set by the extinguisher's cylinder diameter against this cabinet's 6 in interior (tub) depth, not by weight.
