JL Industries Diamond Series Roof Hatch with Bolt-On Safety Railing and Gate 36 x 30

This is the 36 x 30 in Diamond Series galvanneal roof hatch supplied together with its bolt-on safety railing and self-closing gate, made in the USA. A hatch and the guardrail that protects its opening are two separate purchases that almost always go in together, and this is the factory-matched pair under one part number, priced below buying the two separately.

Why they go together

Under 29 CFR 1910.28(b)(3)(iv), an employee has to be protected from falling into a ladderway hole by a guardrail system with toeboards on the exposed sides, and the entrance to the hole needs a self-closing gate or an offset. The guardrail criteria are in 1910.29. This is OSHA's general-industry rule. For construction work, 29 CFR 1926.501(b)(4) governs holes, and OSHA classifies replacement work as maintenance or construction case by case, by its nature, scale and complexity, not simply because it happens in an existing building. The railing in this package ships with a self-closing, self-latching gate. Confirm the final gate or offset configuration with your AHJ before ordering.

Other sizes

We stock this combination in the 36 x 30 in size. The same pairing exists for the 36 x 36 in, 48 x 48 in and the stair-access hatches as a factory order, and the hatch and railings are also sold separately here if you need a different combination.
