JL Industries Ambassador Steel Semi-Recessed Locking Fire Extinguisher Cabinet 10 lb 1017G10

The JL Industries Ambassador 1017G10 is a semi-recessed steel fire extinguisher cabinet with a full-view locking door, made in the USA. It is the 1017F10 with JL's Saf-T-Lok added: a single 8-1/2 in × 22-3/4 in clear acrylic pane shows the whole extinguisher, and a keyed cylinder lock with a breakaway plastic cam keeps the door locked against tampering and theft, while a sharp pull on the door breaks or bends the cam and opens it without a key in an emergency. Two keys are included for routine access and inspections. The continuous hinge opens 180 degrees, and the 3 in rolled trim stays within the ADA 4 in projection limit.

Installer note

On Saf-T-Lok door styles JL sets the pull 3-1/2 in higher than the door center. Allow for that against the 48 in maximum handle height when setting the cabinet's mounting height.

Extinguisher compatibility

JL rates this tub for dry-chemical extinguishers from 2.5 to 10 lb, Halotron clean agent from 2.5 to 5 lb, and a 5 lb CO2 extinguisher. Before ordering, compare your extinguisher's overall height, handle included, with the tub's inside height and its overall width, hose included, with the inside width. Its cylinder diameter has to fit the 6 in tub depth. Allow at least 1 in of clearance each way and check that it fits through the door opening. Model cross-reference

Without the lock this is the 1017F10. With a vertical-duo window instead of the full pane, the locking version is the 1017W10. All share the same 11-1/2 in × 25 in × 3-1/8 in wall opening. The fire-rated build of this exact cabinet, the 1017G10FX2, needs a larger rough opening (12-13/16 in × 26-5/16 in × 4 in), so choose between the two before the wall is framed.
