JL Industries Ambassador Steel Semi-Recessed Fire Rated Locking Fire Extinguisher Cabinet 10 lb 1017G10FX2

The JL Industries Ambassador 1017G10FX2 is the fire-rated build of the semi-recessed 3 in rolled-trim Ambassador cabinet with a full-view locking door, for a 10 lb extinguisher, made in the USA. The Fire-FX2 construction lines the cabinet with mineral wool insulation and is UL classified and labeled up to 2 hours in accordance with UL 1479 (ASTM E814) and CAN/ULC-S115, so the cabinet can go into a fire-resistance-rated wall without compromising the wall's rating for its listed assemblies. The door is one 8-1/2 in × 22-3/4 in clear acrylic pane with JL's Saf-T-Lok: a keyed cylinder lock, two keys included, with a breakaway plastic cam, so a sharp pull on the door opens it without a key in an emergency.

Rated wall or not?

The fire-rated build needs a larger rough opening than the non-rated 1017G10: 12-13/16 in × 26-5/16 in × 4 in against 11-1/2 in × 25 in × 3-1/8 in. The two are not interchangeable once the wall is framed, so confirm the wall's rating before you cut the opening. A listed cabinet is valid only for its listed wall assemblies. Installer note

On Saf-T-Lok door styles JL sets the pull 3-1/2 in higher than the door center. Allow for that against the 48 in maximum handle height when setting the cabinet's mounting height.

Extinguisher compatibility

JL rates this tub for dry-chemical extinguishers from 2.5 to 10 lb, Halotron clean agent from 2.5 to 5 lb, and a 5 lb CO2 extinguisher. Before ordering, compare your extinguisher's overall height, handle included, with the tub's inside height and its overall width, hose included, with the inside width. Its cylinder diameter has to fit the 6 in tub depth. Allow at least 1 in of clearance each way and check that it fits through the door opening.
