Purple K is a potassium-bicarbonate dry chemical agent rated for Class B and Class C fires. On hydrocarbon fuels — gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, hydraulic oil — it is roughly twice as effective by weight as standard ABC, which is why it's the agent of choice for petroleum facilities, aviation refueling, marine engine rooms, and racing pit operations. Buckeye Fire Equipment makes this 10 lb stored-pressure unit rated 80-B:C, with an aluminum cylinder, plated brass valve, and Schrader recharge valve. Choose Purple K over ABC when the fuel class is predominantly B (flammable liquids) and Class A coverage isn't required. PK doesn't carry an A rating — it won't put out wood, paper, or fabric fires on its own. For mixed-hazard occupancies, either pair PK with a Class A water or AFFF extinguisher, or step up to an ABC unit that covers all three classes at the cost of some B-rating effectiveness.
