Compare Halotron Sizes
Halotron I is a clean agent that leaves no residue and conducts no electricity. Buckeye makes this 11 lb stored-pressure unit with a discharge hose for data centers, server rooms, and mixed-hazard areas needing Class A coverage on top of flammable-liquid and electrical protection. Rated 1-A:10-B:C and manufactured in accordance with ANSI/UL 2129 and ANSI/UL 711.
Because Halotron discharges as a rapidly evaporating liquid and leaves nothing behind, it is the right choice anywhere ABC dry chemical would do collateral damage: server cabinets, telecom gear, lab instruments, and electronics. Dry chemical extinguishes the fire but leaves corrosive residue that keeps damaging boards and drives afterward.
Portable Halotron units complement fixed clean-agent systems governed by NFPA 2001, with NFPA 75 covering fire protection for IT equipment rooms; for placement and maintenance see NFPA 10. Steel cylinder with polyester epoxy powder coating and a rugged all-metal valve assembly. Made in Kings Mountain, NC. US Coast Guard approved for Type B:C Size I only when ordered with the Model 810 mounting bracket (P/N 700228), which ships separately. NFPA 75 also covers firestopping the cable and conduit penetrations through the room's fire-rated walls, the passive side of the standard; see our data center firestop compliance guide.

Estimators pricing a clean-agent spec line can check this unit against the named basis-of-design model directly. Halotron I is one agent, made by American Pacific and filled by several extinguisher manufacturers, so the comparison is UL rating, agent capacity, and construction. The manufacturer datasheet (PDF) has the full spec table for submittals. Our UL 2129 page explains the agent designations spec writers use, including why HCFC Blend B means Halotron I. For project quantities, request a bulk quote. We handle substitution paperwork, work from spec snippets when the full document is under NDA, and can stage deliveries to the job site.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use this on energized electrical equipment?
Yes. Halotron I is non-conductive, so it is safe on live electrical equipment. The 1-A:10-B:C rating covers Class C electrical fires along with Class A ordinary combustibles and Class B flammable liquids.
Will it leave residue or damage electronics?
No. Halotron discharges as a rapidly evaporating liquid and leaves no residue, so it will not contaminate the equipment it protects. ABC dry chemical is also rated for electrical fires, but it leaves a corrosive powder that can keep damaging boards after the fire is out and usually means cleaning or replacing the gear.
Is it a good fit for protecting installed electrical gear, including on a job site?
Yes. It is a common choice for switchgear, control rooms, server and telecom rooms, and lab instruments, including during construction before equipment is commissioned. A discharge near installed gear will not force the teardown and decontamination that dry chemical would.
What standards does it meet?
It is listed to ANSI/UL 711 and rated 1-A:10-B:C, and it supports NFPA 10 for placement and maintenance. Portable Halotron units complement fixed clean-agent systems under NFPA 2001, with NFPA 75 covering fire protection for IT equipment rooms.
Where is it made?
In the USA, at Buckeye's Kings Mountain, North Carolina plant.
How many do I need?
Under NFPA 10, position extinguishers so the travel distance to one never exceeds 75 ft for Class A and 50 ft for Class B. With a 9 to 15 ft discharge range, one unit covers a typical equipment room; add a unit per protected room or asset zone.
Does this extinguisher come with an inspection tag?
No. New extinguishers ship untagged. A service tag records maintenance performed on a unit that is already in service, so there is nothing to record on a new one yet. Under NFPA 10 the annual maintenance is done by a trained person and the tag is attached then. The monthly visual inspection is one you can do yourself.
Can I return this fire extinguisher?
Once shipped, charged fire extinguishers are not returnable. They are DOT-regulated hazardous materials (compressed gas, UN 1044) and cannot be shipped back through normal parcel carriers. If your unit arrives damaged or defective, email support@usmadesupply.com with photos and we will work with you on a resolution.
