Halotron I is a clean agent extinguishing chemical that leaves no residue and conducts no electricity. It was developed as a drop-in replacement for Halon 1211, with far lower ozone depletion and global warming potential. Buckeye makes this 15.5 lb stored-pressure unit for facilities that need a single-unit answer for combustibles, flammable liquids, and live electrical equipment. Rated 2-A:10-B:C and listed to ANSI/UL 711.
Primary use cases are data centers, server rooms, telecom closets, laboratories, clean rooms, aircraft hangars, and any space where water, dry chemical, or foam would ruin the equipment you're trying to protect. Water shorts circuits. ABC powder leaves corrosive residue that destroys boards, drives, and precision hardware. Halotron discharges, does its job, and leaves nothing behind.
Portable Halotron extinguishers work alongside fixed clean-agent suppression systems governed by NFPA 2001. For IT equipment rooms specifically, see NFPA 75. Do not use in confined spaces smaller than 2,170 cubic feet per extinguisher. The concentrated agent can produce toxic byproducts when applied to fire; ventilate the area after discharge. Can I use this on energized electrical equipment?
Yes. Halotron I is non-conductive, so it is safe on live electrical equipment. The 2-A:10-B:C rating covers Class C electrical along with Class A ordinary combustibles and Class B flammable liquids, so one unit handles mixed hazards.
Will it leave residue or damage electronics?
No. Halotron discharges as a rapidly evaporating liquid and leaves no residue, so it will not contaminate the equipment it protects. ABC dry chemical is also rated for electrical fires but leaves a corrosive powder that can keep damaging boards after the fire is out and usually means cleaning or replacing the gear.
Is it a good fit for protecting installed electrical gear, including on a job site?
Yes. It is a common choice for data centers, server and telecom rooms, labs, clean rooms, and hangars, including protecting installed switchgear and equipment during construction before commissioning. A discharge near live gear will not force the teardown that dry chemical would.
Are there any placement limits I should know?
Yes. Do not use this unit in a confined space smaller than 2,170 cubic feet, and ventilate the area after any discharge, because the concentrated agent can produce toxic byproducts when applied to fire. Size and place units per NFPA 10 and match room volume.
What standards does it meet?
It is listed to ANSI/UL 711 and rated 2-A:10-B:C, and it supports NFPA 10 for placement and maintenance. Portable Halotron units complement fixed clean-agent systems under NFPA 2001, with NFPA 75 covering fire protection for IT equipment rooms.

Does this extinguisher come with an inspection tag?
No. New extinguishers ship untagged. A service tag records maintenance performed on a unit that is already in service, so there is nothing to record on a new one yet. Under NFPA 10 the annual maintenance is done by a trained person and the tag is attached then. The monthly visual inspection is one you can do yourself.
